Sheeting Solutions introduces its new 30” wide Environ high density polyethylene (HDPE) environmental sheet piling. This innovative product solution was developed by our Skyline Steel sheeting experts to meet the environmental challenges of Super Fund Sites.
New Shape for a Proven Material
For more than 30 years, high density polyethylene (HDPE) has established itself as the premiere geosynthetic material in the environmental and transportation industries. Time tested and inert, HDPE is one of a few materials capable of meeting unique environmental design requirements. The four point contact interlock was modeled after the AZ steel sheet pile to achieve the lowest possible conductivity.
Unlike other cutoff wall systems, sheet piling does not require excavation to install a vertical barrier., a costly option considering the exposure and removal of hazardous spoils. Environ PE30's revolutionary design incorporates the "drivability" of sheet pile with the chemical resistance of HDPE to control lateral movement of groundwater & gases.
Environ Benefits
- Installs easily with conventional construction equipment
- Maximizes profitability with material costs 40-60% less than steel piling
- Increases manageability, while significantly reducing transportation costs with light weight of the product
- Reduces disturbance of contaminated soil because excavation is not required
- Decreases disposal costs for projects
- Welds easily to HDPE liners
Provides highest chemical resistance and extended service life
Environ Technical Information

Larsen Interlock
- Larsen interlocks have a proven record with the most H2O-tight design available
- The special Larsen design creates multiple contact points that restrict seepage and increase interlock sedimentation
- Interlocks can be further sealed by using a hydrophilic sealant
Hydraulic Connectivity
When properly seated into an underlying aquitard, Environ allows a predictably low level of leakage through the interlocks. In the absence of an aquitard, the depth of panels increases the length of flow and reduces the gradient that drives groundwater movement. Field studies have showed permeability rates less than 1x10-7 cm/sec.
Environ Installation
Environ PE30 is installed with conventional pile driving equipment or using a mandrel. With installation costs similar to steel piles, overall project costs prove significantly less due to a 40 - 60% reduction in material cost. In addition, the material's light weight makes handling easy, while the wide section design increases driving production.
Hammers transfer energy from the top of a pile to the bottom to penetrate the soils. Plastics do not have the stiffness properties to do this effectively. By adding a steel mandrel behind the entire length of the pile, energy is transmitted through the steel, significantly increasing driving efficiency.
Installation advantages include:
- Contractors' familiarity with the driving process translates into cost savings for your client.
- Environ is designed to require less hydrophilic sealant than other alternatives.
- The panels are easy to handle and transport due to their light weight.
